Presence is the creative element of the First World
War managed by identity on tyne called Beyond the Western Front. This project involved researching and dissemination the involvement and contribution of Black, Asian and ethnic minorities within WW1 from a regional perspective as well as taking into consideration the home countries.
Presence utilised this primary research by commissioning seven Black, Asian and ethnic minorities writers within the northern region of the UK, to create original poetry.
Their creations were audio recorded to accompany an interactive installation of voices.
At the same time of the recording, the writers were photographed. These portraits along with the audio recordings of poetry became the final exhibition, Presence.
Presence is an Arts Council England funded project.
